The Ultimate Bunco Night Checklist

Hosting Bunco night should feel exciting, not stressful. The secret to pulling it off without a hitch is having a game plan, literally. Whether this is your first time hosting or your fiftieth, a good checklist keeps you organized and makes sure nothing important slips through the cracks. Bookmark this page, print it out, or screenshot it on your phone. You are going to use it every single month.

One Week Before

  • Confirm the date and time with your group. A quick message in the group chat or through Bunco Club Hub keeps everyone on the same page.
  • Send a reminder asking everyone to RSVP. Give a deadline (like three days before) so you know your headcount.
  • Check your supplies. Do you have enough dice? Scorecards? Pens? A working bell? Now is the time to restock, not the day of.
  • Plan your menu. Decide what you are making and what you need to buy. Keep it simple. Finger foods and easy appetizers always win.
  • Buy prizes. Have at least three to four prizes ready: Most Wins, Most Buncos, Most Losses, and maybe a fun door prize or a themed bonus. Gift cards, candles, wine, bath products, and lottery tickets are all reliable picks.
  • Coordinate subs for anyone who can not make it. Follow up with players who have not responded and make sure empty spots are covered.

Day Before

  • Grocery shop for food and drinks if you have not already.
  • Prep anything you can make ahead. Dips, cookie bars, marinated skewers, and cheese boards can all be prepped a day early.
  • Tidy up your hosting space. Clear clutter from the game area, wipe down tables, and make sure there is plenty of seating.
  • Set up tables and chairs. Three tables of four is standard for 12 players. Make sure each table has enough elbow room for rolling dice comfortably.
  • Print scorecards if you use paper ones. Print a few extras in case of spills or mistakes.
  • Charge your phone and make sure your playlist is ready.

Day Of (A Few Hours Before)

  • Set the tables. Place three dice, a scorecard, and a pen at each table. Put the bell at the head table.
  • Set up the food and drink station. Use a separate table or counter so food does not crowd the game tables. Put out plates, napkins, cups, and utensils.
  • Prepare drinks. If you are making a signature cocktail or punch, mix it now. Set out wine, beer, water, and any non-alcoholic options.
  • Put out prizes. Display them on a side table so everyone can see what they are playing for. A little anticipation goes a long way.
  • Check your bathroom. Fresh hand towel, soap, toilet paper stocked, and maybe a little candle. Your guests will notice (and appreciate) the details.
  • Take out the trash so you have room for the evening's plates and cups.
  • Adjust lighting and temperature. Comfortable lighting keeps the vibe cozy, and nobody wants to play in a freezing or stuffy room.

Right Before Guests Arrive

  • Start your playlist. Background music sets the mood the moment people walk in.
  • Light candles or set out any decor (especially if you are doing a themed night).
  • Do a final walk-through. Tables set? Dice at each one? Bell on the head table? Food out? Prizes displayed? You are good to go.
  • Put your phone on Do Not Disturb. You deserve to enjoy the night too.

During the Game

  • Welcome everyone and do quick introductions if there are any new players or subs.
  • Go over the rules briefly, especially if someone is new. A two-minute refresher prevents confusion mid-game.
  • Assign starting tables. Random seating (draw numbers from a hat) is the easiest and most fun way to do it.
  • Ring the bell to start each round from the head table. The bell signals when a round ends too, so keep it handy.
  • Keep the food area stocked. Check in between rounds and refill anything that is running low.
  • Track scores as you go. If you are using Bunco Club Hub, scores update in real time. If you are on paper, collect scorecards after each set.
  • Take photos! Group shots, action shots, funny moments. Your group will love looking back at them.

After the Game

  • Tally up final scores and announce winners with enthusiasm. Make it a little ceremony, even if it is quick.
  • Hand out prizes. Cheer for the winners. Give the Most Losses winner their moment of glory too (everyone loves the Booby Prize moment).
  • Confirm next month's date and host. Do this before people leave so it is settled and on the calendar.
  • Collect the buy-in if you have not already, and note who has paid. Venmo or cash, keep it simple.
  • Thank your guests for coming. A little appreciation goes a long way.
  • Clean up. Toss disposable items, wash dishes, wipe tables, and put furniture back. Recruit a friend or two to help if you need it.
  • Save your scorecards or enter scores into Bunco Club Hub so you can track stats over time. Season-long leaderboards make things even more fun.

Your Hosting Survival Kit

Keep a dedicated Bunco box or bag with these essentials so you are always ready to host at a moment's notice:

  • 12 dice (three per table, plus spares)
  • A bell
  • A stack of printed scorecards
  • Pens (at least 15, because pens always vanish)
  • A small basket or envelope for buy-in money
  • A printed copy of the house rules
  • Name tags (for nights with new players or subs)

There you have it: everything you need to host a smooth, fun, stress-free Bunco night. The more you host, the easier it gets, and before long, most of this will be second nature. Now go enjoy your night and roll some Buncos!
